The Architecture program at the Guthrie Center, SBISD's central facility for Career and Technical Education (CTE), was abuzz with excitement as students prepared for the annual Texas Society of Architects (TxA) Design Challenge.
This year, the program proudly submitted 21 entries, with over half showcasing the innovative work of dedicated individual students.
Among the top contenders were Mayar Badi and Zanli Morris, whose exceptional designs highlighted their creativity and commitment to excellence. Over the course of four intense weeks, students transformed their designs into tangible projects, pushing their creative limits. For Mayar and Zanli, the challenge only intensified their focus, leading to late nights spent sketching and refining their ideas.
Their hard work paid off with impressive results. Mayar Badi secured first place, achieving a remarkable second consecutive victory in the individual category. Zanli Morris earned the People's Choice Award for a project that exemplified innovative design.
Both students delivered captivating presentations, underscoring the high standards upheld by the Guthrie Center Architecture program. Their work demonstrated not only technical proficiency but also a deep understanding of architectural principles and effective communication of their visions.
In addition to their individual successes, 16 Guthrie students had the opportunity to attend the 85th Annual Conference and Design Expo in Houston. There, they explored Discovery Green, engaged in sketching, and participated in a rapid-fire Design Charrette, generating ideas for future projects.
The success of this event was made possible by the dedicated support of TxA, along with volunteers, sponsors, and coordinators. Their commitment to nurturing the next generation of architects provides invaluable insights into the profession and inspires students to pursue their aspirations.
With Mayar and Zanli leading the way, the Architecture program at the Guthrie Center continues to solidify its reputation as a premier CTE institution. This year's Design Challenge not only highlighted the exceptional talent of its students but also emphasized the importance of creativity, perseverance, and community in the field of architecture.
As they look to the future, the students of Guthrie Center and the SBISD CTE program are not just designing structures; they are building pathways to their futures.
