As the college application season approaches, Northbrook High School in Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) is gearing up to host a college essay workshop on September 9 for students in grades 11 and 12. High school English teachers from all across the district will be onsite to guide students through the essentials of crafting a compelling essay.

The workshop will take place Saturday, September 9, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the D wing located upstairs at Northbrook High School, 1 Raider Cir N, Houston, TX 77080. All levels of writers are welcomed and students are encouraged to bring their Chromebooks, chargers, and, if they have one, drafts of their essay.

“The college essay is one critical step in the college application process,” said Tyra Walker SBISD Executive Director for Postsecondary Outcomes, Guidance and Counseling and Responsive Services. “We want to provide our students with the best resources and guidance possible to help them showcase their unique stories, experiences and ambitions.”

The essay workshop aims to equip students with the necessary skills to write a compelling essay that stands out to college admissions officers. From brainstorming and organizing ideas to crafting a captivating narrative and polishing the final draft, the workshop will cover all aspects of the essay writing process.

“Our experienced English teachers will be present to provide one-on-one guidance and feedback, ensuring that students feel confident in their writing abilities and submit an essay that truly represents who they are,” Walker added.

With the college application process becoming increasingly competitive each year, a well-written essay can make all the difference. Admissions officers often rely on these essays to gain insight into a student's personality, passions and potential contributions to the campus community.
